We could hide the global one on the website too if we wanted to. L4D2 though doesn't have a global leaderboard AFAIK. And I assume it's not rock solid cheat protected, but I'm not sure. Besides in game you only see a board with your friends, but not the global one. Bot most playtesters said it's more fun to have a cheated leaderboard than to not have it at all. I'm personally not very happy of having a broken feature at release. And official dedicated servers would cost money or a very dedicated community which will host, maintain, and add new servers.Īlso this will require a payed hosting for a non commercial game.Īs of now we decided to keep things as it is. VAC will require our constant work for cheat database updating. The idea is good but it should be accompanied with solid VAC and official dedicated servers. Who will want to review 100 demos per day every day to decide if it's the cheated one or not? Besides, you can't tell with 100% accuracy that somebody cheated, they may be a skilled player and use some small and unnoticeable speed hack to earn a few seconds. And keep only like top 10 demos of the leaderboard.Īll this is good, but doesn't protect from the cheaters. We could also optimize by uploading only those demos which actually beat the score of the previous board leader. They can also be compressed to 50% of their size. Demos are not videos, they are usually around 20-30 MB in size.
